Covenant Health Welcomes Wayne Carmello-Harper as Its New Vice President of Mission Integration

Covenant Health recently welcomed Wayne Carmello-Harper as its new Vice President of Mission Integration and a member of the health system’s corporate leadership team.

Carmello-Harper brings a deep commitment and expertise in Catholic healthcare and Catholic identity. In his role, he will be responsible for ensuring the successful integration, assessment and deployment of mission in all activities, decisions and strategies across our system.

“Wayne is a seasoned leader who understands our mission. He will play a key role in ensuring our legacy of care to vulnerable populations continues in the markets we serve,” says Stephen Grubbs, president/CEO, Covenant Health. “He is also an accessible, compassionate, collaborative leader who is committed to leading our mission integration efforts at every level of our ministry. I am pleased to welcome him to the Covenant team.”

Carmello-Harper most recently served as the Vice President & Chief Mission Integration Leader in the Ascension Alabama market. He earned his Master of Divinity and his license in canon law (JCL) at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC after completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Meinrad College in Indiana. He also completed the executive leadership program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, earned four units of Clinical Pastoral Education from the Pastoral Center at Catholic University, and completed numerous other professional development programs. In addition, Carmello-Harper served as a priest for eight years with the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham in positions ranging from associate pastor to vice-chancellor.

He has also served as a board member for the Forge Breast Cancer Survivorship Network, as the commissioner for the Governor’s Policy Council on Pre-K Education and the Governor’s Office of Rural Development and Office of Community Initiatives in Alabama.
